We don't know a great deal about how music might have sounded in the Viking Age, but there are many instruments from the Stone Age up until the present which have a strong presence in Norway and other Scandinavian countries which also have functional and entertainment value today. They are sounds and vibrations that reach deeply into our DNA and call to us, summoning us from a place of long ago ... where waterfalls crash down to rocks far below, swallows chase insects on the summer breeze, seagulls screel and turn above longships heading out to sea with the swishing of water falling from oars ... and ancient rock art across Nordic lands remember the stories of peoples of long ago ...

There has been a resurgence of music using many of the old style instruments, and with a look to helping them perform louder and in various temperatures, lasting longer, and travelling well.
The musicians featured here are a few of Janina's Viking Soul favorites who utilize the old instruments and styles - sometimes preserving it and sometimes making it new. There is an exciting variety here to explore... and maybe you'll find a new land of music - a great place to visit.
