Viking Age Living History
Living and sharing the Viking Age through education can be a hobby, research based project, or lifelong passion.
The quality and care taken in craftsmanship in textiles, ship building, blacksmith work, fighting strategies, weaponry, agriculture, music and exploration can make this an expensive pursuit, but it is an amazing networking opportunity to meet with others who possess a wealth of knowledge, learn together and rejoice as more is being discovered archaeologically.
Here are a few simple photos of Bjarni and Solvor (Janina) as village musicians, and a few of the small village jobs with which they've been involved. Making one's own clothing and equipment is a supremely satisfying experience and one that is rare in modern day life. Maybe that's what makes it so very special as well as the opportunity to become a part of a community who is constantly learning and living sometimes in the very old and authentic (based upon what we know so far) and some who are developing new patterns and thoughts from the old ways.
If you are interested in re-enactment, it is a good idea to have a character or persona in mind. Vikings travelled far and wide! Their influence and connections are rich with exploration, new traditions, and different communities. Research the historical time period, geographical location, and surrounding scenarios of that time and create a character. Then begin to find out what the clothing would be like and how it would be constructed. There are tremendous tips out there to help build persona or how to be an effective re-enactor. There are many re-enactment groups to join around the world. There are also many Viking Markets which abound across Scandinavia every summer and any history buff, or Viking Age enthusiast can experience the wonders of a many cultured trading place in these events. Most are showcased online or on Facebook.

Society of Creative Anachronism - an international organization with many aspects of history being examined and lived
Vikings Vinland is an international organization of re-enactors with bountiful historic information and strict guides on authenticity
Viking Valley, Norway - a lovely village set within the deep Nærøyfjord, where one can step back in time and visit or live amongst the Vikings in their peaceful existence doing daily activities like weaving, tending animals, practicing archery, learning Glima wrestling, playing Viking games, and occasionally taking a nordic boat out on to the fjord.
